安庆市位于安徽省西南部，长江下游北岸，是长江沿岸著名的港口城市。现辖桐城市、怀宁、枞阳、潜山、岳西、太湖、望江、宿松7县及迎江、大观、宜秀3区，总面积1．5 3万平方公里，总人口 6 1 0万人。其中市区面积8 2 1平方公里，人口7 3万。 Anqing, lying on the north bank of the mid-lower reaches of the Yangtze River in the southwest of Anhui province, is a famous port city. Under its jurisdiction are one county-level city of Tongcheng, seven counties of Huaining, Zongyang, Qianshan, Yuexi, Taihu, Wangjiang, Susong and three urban districts of Yingjiang, Daguan and Yixiu. It covers a total area of 15.300km2 with a population of 6.1million, with an urban area accounting for 550 km2 and urban residents of 730,000.
国家历史文化名城 National-level Historical and Cultural City 安庆历史悠久，人文荟萃，是国家历史文化名城。东周时期安庆是古皖国所在地，安徽省简称“皖”即由此而来。安庆城始建于公元1217年，至今已有近800年的历史。东晋诗人郭璞曾称“此地宜城”，故安庆又别名“宜城”。从清乾隆二十五年(1760)到民国二十六年(1938)，安庆一直是安徽省省会和全省政治、经济、文化中心，是中国较早接受近代文明的城市之一。
As a national-level historical and cultural city, Anqing has enjoyed a long and rich history. In the Dongzhou period, Anqing was the seat of the "Wan" country, from which the short term "Wan" for Anhui province is derived. Established in 1217, Anqing has a history of nearly 800 years. In the Dongjing Dynasty, the renowned poet, Guo Pu, noted that Anqing was a very livable city; hence it is also referred as Yicheng(Chinese words for livable city). Anqing was the capital city and the center of politics, economy and culture in Anhui province from 1760 to 1938.
安庆还是中国较早接受近代文明的城市之一。清咸丰十一（1861）年曾国藩创办的安庆内军械所，制造了中国第一台蒸汽机和第一艘机动船；清光绪年间陈独秀在安庆举办藏书楼演说、创办《安徽俗话报》，第一次试举起“新文化”的旗帜；光绪三十三年（1907）、三十四年（1908）先后发生在安庆的徐锡麟巡警学堂起义和熊成基炮马营起义，接连打响了辛亥革命第一枪和新军起义的第一枪；安徽省的第一座发电厂、第一座自来水厂、第一家电报局、第一部电话、第一条官办公路、第一个飞机场、第一个现代图书馆、第一所大学、第一张报纸……都诞生在这里。 Anqing was also one of the earliest cities in China to embrace the industrial revolution .The first steam engine and the first motor boat in China were made in Anqing. In addition, it is also the home of the first power plant, water supply plant, telegraph office, telephone, officially-funded road, airport, modern library, university and newspaper in Anhui province. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty, Chen Duxiu (the pioneer of the Chinese modern cultural movement) organized a campaign called "New Culture"in Anqing which marked the beginning of this era. Several uprisings also took place over modernization and reform on this land . 安庆素有“文化之邦”、“戏剧之乡”、“禅宗圣地”的美誉。是《孔雀东南飞》、“大乔小乔”、“不越雷池一步”、“六尺巷”等著名故事的发生地，是统治中国文坛近三百年的“桐城派”的故里，是京剧鼻祖程长庚为代表的徽班成长的摇篮，是黄梅戏形成和发展的地方，也是中国新文化运动先驱陈独秀、佛教领袖赵朴初、道教领袖陈撄宁、“两弹元勋”邓稼先、中国“计算机之父”慈云桂、“将军外交家”黄镇、“杂技皇后”夏菊花、通俗小说大师张恨水等影响中国、闻名世界的杰出人物的故乡。古皖文化、禅宗文化、戏剧文化和桐城派文化在这里交相辉映，形成了独具特色的地方文化。 Anqing has long been referred to be the city of culture, the home of operas and the holy land of Zen. It is the birthplace of the Tongcheng School which had played a dominant role for over 200 years in Chinese literature during the Qing Dynasty and the cradle of Peking Opera and Huangmei Opera. Many celebrities made their home in the area such as Fang Yizhi, the famous ideologist of the Ming Dynasty, Deng Shiru, seal-cutting calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty, Cheng Changgeng, the originator of the Beijing Opera, Zhang Hengshui, the novelist, Zhao Puchu, the master of Buddhism, Deng Jiaxian, a man of great merit in the field of the a-bomb and h-bomb; Chen Duxiu, the founder of CPC, Huang Zhen, a General and diplomat, Yan Fengying, a famous Huangmei Opera artist, as well as many others.
国家园林城市 National Garden City 安庆生态优良，环境优美，是国家园林城市。安庆城北枕龙山，南临长江，西依皖河，东接石塘、破罡诸湖，狮子山、凤凰山、菱湖、秦潭湖等镶嵌其间，整个就像是一座大园林。城北的大龙山—石塘湖风景区，山景、水景、石景、树景、洞景融为一体，别具特色；城西的陈独秀陵园，林郁山静，幽雅肃穆，令人叹止；城南沿江岸建设的外滩公园、桥头公园绵延近十公里，形成一条靓丽的风景线；城内的“世太史第”、“探花第”、“太平天国英王府”等古建筑，保持了典型的明清建筑风貌；特别是历史悠久的菱湖公园与近年建设的莲湖公园、市民公园、大湖风景区已连成一片，总面积近五平方公里，堪与杭州西湖媲美；建设在景区内的文化广场、黄梅戏艺术中心、邓石如碑馆、黄梅阁、血衣亭、日本樱花园、徽派盆景园、黄镇纪念馆和科技馆、体育馆、图书馆等建筑物，以及程长庚、邓石如、严凤英、邓稼先、陈延年等塑像，更是增添了一层文化的氛围。城区绿化覆盖率已达3 8．2 6％，绿地率达3 5．6 6％，人均公共绿地面积为8．O3平方米。 As a National Garden city, Anqing is blessed with the beautiful scenery of Dalong Mount in the north and the Yangtze River flowing by the south with Wanhe River, Lion Mountain, Phoneix Mount, Linhu Lake and Qintang Lake scatters around the city. The newly-built Riverside Park creates a 10 km long beautiful landscape along the Yangtze River. It includes not only the national 4A-grade scenic spots of Tianzhu Mountain and Huating Lake, but also more than ten nationally- recognized areas, national nature reserves, forest parks, and geological parks or cultural relic conservation spots, such as Dalong Mountain, Xiaogu Mountain, Fushan Mountain and Yaoluoping nature reserve. It is also a transportation link between Jiuhua Mountain, Yellow Mountain and Lushan Mountain, all well-known scenic spots around the globe.
